Crazy world of academia
How art history changed my life
Academia can be tricky. Sometimes I feel like those research papers are so complicated on purpose. I mean I get it. It’s quite a thrill to use words like affordances or psychogeography correctly in a sentence. It’s easy however to loose the sight of why we become part of academia in the first place – it’s about understanding the world, not make it more complex. It’s to see it with new eyes, reveal new perspectives, uncover new interpretations. And share them in a way people can get it.
My story begins in 2005 in IT. 7 years later I fenced with audio production and sound design. In 2019 I begun my journey with art history. A journey which was suppose to only last 3 years. It’s 2025, and I’m still here. And its not over. Who knew? :)
What does it mean exactly? I hope that the articles and papers will speak for themselves but for those who go live by tldr; philosophy, here it is: art history, video games in art history, digital humanities, critical heritage studies, urbex, dark tourism, cultural institutions and interdisciplinary studies.
This blog represents my work I’ve done so far at Warsaw University in Poland at the departments of Art History and Artes Liberales in the last 5 years. However I love to hover between things, departments, ideas, disciplines. It’s the borders where the most interesting things happen, so the articles’ classifications might not be clear on a first glance. Let me help you. Ditch the Enlightement style approach of putting everything in the right box. Instead, pick a topic, a keyword, search for a term and just give yourself a chance to be surprised. You might even be dazzled. :)
What subjects will you find here? Check my academic keywords at the top. Use the search bar. I have enriched my texts with an insane quantity of tags to make searching more accurate, so look for places, objects, concepts, ideas, names, and activities. Alternatively, you can simply skim all posts and just pick what tickles your fancy. Sometimes intuitive approach yields best results.
If you feel like you want to join the discussion, I encourage you to do so in a respectful manner. Comment, ask, write, challenge me or contact me if you want to do some networking.:) Maybe we share similar interests? Maybe you want to invite me to join your next urbex expedition? :D
